Grandparents Day in Holy Ghost Church
The Feast of Saints Joachim and Ann that falls on the 26th of July, is probably the less revered Feast in contemporary times. Their relevance as grandparents of Jesus and parents of Mother Mary is slowly waning in a world which tends to undervalue the importance of grandparents and the elderly in our society. Yet, their presence, influence and role cannot be brushed aside for the deep and quiet power that they wield on the younger generation and on all humanity. Keeping this sublime truth in perspective Holy Ghost Church honoured its Senior Citizens on the 29th of July as Grandparents Day, in a specially organised program at the Parish Hall.
The event had a good mix of fun, food and fellowship, all the essential inputs that make any get-together enjoyable and memorable. Starting with a prayer by Fr. Paul, all the 150-odd participants from the parish were entertained with a violin rendition and a poem recitation by the grandchildren of the parish. There were also games for amusement and snacks for distraction. The meticulously planned event by the Ladies of Charity was much enjoyed and appreciated by all those who attended the program that lasted for a good one-and-half hours between 11 and 12/30 PM that Sunday.
A formal vote of thanks acknowledging the initiative and effort taken by Fr. Paul in conceiving and putting this function together was made after which Fr. Paul gave his final blessing to the Grandparents winding up the get-together on a joyful and sacred note.
