Feast of Pentecost at Holy Ghost Church

The eponymous feast of Holy Ghost Church, the Feast of Pentecost, was celebrated on the 20th of May that was reminiscent of the out pouring of the Holy Spirit from heaven on the apostles gathered in an Upper Room. “When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.  Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.  They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.  All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them (Acts 2:2-4).”  By this First Pentecost Jesus fulfilled His promise to send another Helper, to be with us forever (John 14:16).  Every year our Mother Church commemorates the origins of this Helper amongst us and here at Holy Ghost the Feast takes more prominence as it is the titular feast of the parish.

Prior to the Feast, the parish witnessed a spectacularly moving 40 hours Eucharistic Adoration that began with the Holy Eucharist on Friday, 18th May at 7.00 am.  Archbishop Bernard Moras graced the occasion as the main celebrant at the special Mass and preached the homily for the congregation.  Soon after the Eucharist, the Blessed Sacrament was exposed with due reverence.  Redemptorist priests, altar servers and girls in white attire, to mark the sanctity of the occasion, made a solemn procession to the Blessed Sacrament Chapel that was an inspiring sight to behold. The march to the brightly decorated Blessed Sacrament Chapel ushered the 40 Hours of Eucharistic Adoration in anticipation of Pentecost Sunday two days ahead.

From thereon, the non-stop and holy Adoration began.  Starting at 8.00 am on Friday until 12.00 am on Saturday (40 hours), the public adoration that followed marked the preparation of the Parish for the great Feast of Pentecost.  Various SCC groups, Pious Associations, Parish Council and the Lector’s Group animated in the Adoration that had an impressive and broad participation of the Parish.

The Adoration concluded with Mass on the eve of Pentecost, at Saturday mid-night, 12.00 am.  Fr. David Jesuraj joined the other priests at the Altar as the main celebrant for the Vigil Mass.  With such an enriching spiritual experience, the parish was all set to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost the next day in its true spirit.  Fr. Antic Santhosh initiated the Feast with his preaching centered on the Holy Spirit.  The parish witnessed the blessing and the inexplicable outpouring of the Holy Spirit yet again from heavens above on the Feast of Pentecost.
